Having an email marketing strategy in your internet marketing strategy is a must if you are going to make money online.

So in this blog post, I want to share with you how to get more people to open your emails. This is something I learnt earlier on in my internet marketing career and it’s made a big difference in the open rates I get from my emails.

How does this email marketing strategy work?

You can get more people to open your emails by resending your email.

If you think about it, people may not open your email for a variety of reasons. It could be that they planned to open it but genuinely forgot.

I know that has happened to me several times!

Or maybe they missed it all together and didn’t seven see it come in.

When you resend your email you would be able to reach the group of people I mentioned above.

However, you have to be strategic about it though. Don’t just copy and resend.

This is how to effectively apply this email marketing strategy:

  1. Wait at least 24 hours before you resend your email. I would say 48 hours is better. That gives people that didn’t open the first email, the chance to open it, so that they don’t get a duplicate copy from you.
  2. Change the subject line. This is very important because if your leads see multiple versions of the same email in their account, they might mark it as spam.
  3. If you send it with a different subject title, it will look like a new email to your leads.
  4. I would recommend that you are honest with your audience and put in a note the second time you send the email, saying something like ‘just in case you missed my first email’ or ‘I didn’t want you to miss this’.

Now, down to the nitty gritty, how to do it!

Step 1

Go into your email account. I use Aweber so that’s the tool I will be using for this demo.

Then click on Messages and select ‘broadcasts’ in the drop down menu.

Step 2

The page will open to all your broadcasts.

Click on the broadcast you want to resend.

The page will open up to page that shows the statistics of your broadcast showing those that opened your email and those that didn’t.

Click on ‘unopened’ and it will open up all the information of people that didn’t open your email.

Then click ‘send directly to these subscribers’. Don’t worry it will not send immediately. You will still have the option to change the title later on.

Step 4

Name your segment and click ‘Save Your Segment’.

Now go back to  your broadcasts by clicking on Messages=> Broadcasts and click on ‘copy’. This will copy the broadcast you want to resend into a new email so you can change the title or tweak the message.

Change the title and you can also tweak the message if you want to, then scroll down to the middle of the page and select the segment you created in step 4.

email_marketing_strategyOnce you have selected the segment, you can now save your message and send it and that’s it!

Following these 6 steps will ensure that your message only gets sent to those who didn’t open it, the first time you sent it.

Implement this email marketing strategy and you will have a big increase in your open rates and you will also be able to build rapport with more people.
