Don’t put all your eggs into one basket.
Relying on one traffic generation source can be catastrophic to any internet marketing business.
Some people rely only on SEO and article marketing and when Google strikes, they loose almost all their traffic instantly.
For example, when Google struck with the deadly Google penguin, many marketers lost almost all their traffic and income overnight.
If you think about it, we as marketers do not own Google and we don’t have any say on what they decide to change in their algorithms.
So if you are relying on them solely, you are treading on dangerous grounds.
Another example is social media
Relying ONLY on the Social media networks can be fatal.
Social media networks are great for traffic generation and I personally get a lot of traffic from Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. However, we don’t have any control over them.
What if Facebook decides to shut down (I know that’s very unlikely) but what if they decide to shut down your account and that was your only source of traffic?
For example, a lot of marketers have had their Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube accounts all shut down. If any of them had their main traffic from any of these places, they would be in a BIG mess.
Have a good mix of traffic generation sources…
To be safe, it’s highly recommended to have multiple traffic generation sources. So if one source stops working or gets shut down, it would not be catastrophic to your business.
If you want to be a sustainable online business, you will want to have a good balance of paid marketing, social media marketing as well as content/article marketing strategies in place.
The point is, do not rely on one source of traffic.
Diversify, diversify, diversify!
But I’m quite new online, should I start to diversify immediately
No.
And the reason why is because if you try to learn too many strategies all at once, there is a good chance that you will get overwhelmed and that will slow down your progress.
If you are new to the internet, the best thing you can do is learn one traffic generation strategy at a time.
Don’t try to learn too many things at once.
A lot of people fall into that trap of trying to learn everything at the same time but then they end up spreading themselves too thin and achieve nothing.
So my advice is that you should stick to one or two traffic strategies, master them, get results and then add on another strategy.
By doing that, you will be able to still have a diversified source of traffic, not immediately but eventually.
Your traffic generation sources are the life of your business so make sure that you have a good plan in place and start to diversify as soon as you can.

I was reading trough your blog and I found this article. I think this is so good and true. I really like it.
As you mentioned below the image, it will be foolish to put all the eggs in one basket..I personally rely on multiple sources of traffic, even if the inbound traffic is mediocre the chances of improvement are huge.SEO is great but when Google strikes an update, all the hardwork is lost in a matter of days.
Hey Joe, thanks for stopping by my blog.
It’s better to be safe than sorry so multiple sources is definitely the way to go!
Hey Ruth, this is very true. Why put all of your eggs in one basket when that basket can fall and break all the eggs. If you’ve been doing internet marketing for a while the best thing to do is use more than one strategy to get traffic and leads. Like you said, if anything were to happen to that one traffic source then there goes your traffic and leads.
